Lactose intolerance, also called lactase deficiency, is a type of inability to metabolize and digest lactose (or milk sugar) in the body. In cases of lactose intolerance, the stomach is unable to adequately secrete lactase. The defect is usually temporary, but it may take longer to resolve. In infants who have this problem, lactose is excreted intact through the stool. So this problem can be detected by stool testing.
Symptoms include abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, gas, nausea and reflux.
Lactose Intolerance Treatment :
People with lactose intolerance are usually relieved by reducing consumption of dairy products and the use of special products (lactose free). It is also better to consume some dairy products like yogurt and cheese because of their lower lactose content comparing to milk.
